Supermodels get their undies out (+pics)

Victoria's Secret models Doutzen Kroes and Adriana Lima were all smiles at the company's flagship shop in New York for the launch of Supermodel Obsessions.

Both of the Angels looked fashionable and well-fixed - Lima in a tan colored flowy summer dress, spell Kroes opted for a silver and black above-the-knee cocktail dress.

They kept their look casual by pairing the dresses with open-toed flats.

Supermodel Obsessions is a collection of covetable underclothes and sleepware.

And the well news? You don't have to head to the US to get the collection as the company delivers ecumenical - including New Zealand.

Contemporary malarky guitar player Marc Antoine blends his authoritative preparation with a multicultural urban groove. After perusal at the Edouard Paiteron College and the International School of Classical Guitar, he played with a typically varied hurtle of artists: pop stars like Sting, Basia and Selena, rappers like Guru's Jazzmatazz project and Queen Latifah, plus acidulous malarky hippies the Solsonics and DJ Greyboy. Signed to the New York City subsidiary company of GRP Records, Antoine recorded his solo debut Classical Soul in 1994. The album climbed to the top of the contemporary jazz charts, thanks to the single "Wholeness." Urban Gypsy followed a year later, and in 1998 Antoine resurfaced with Spanish capital; Universal Language, his first base LP for novel label Polygram, appeared in early 2000; Cruisin' was released a twelvemonth afterwards.

Angelina Jolie makes surprise visit to Baghdad

UN goodwill ambassador and Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has travelled to Iraq on a humanitarian mission and met with officials to demand help for people displaced by the war.
Although a scheduled press conference at the US embassy was cancelled, the Oscar-winning actress spoke to CNN telling the station that she wanted more to be done for the Iraqi families driven from their homes.
The 32-year-old said: "There are over two million displaced people and there never seems to be a real coherent plan to help them. There's lots of good will and lots of discussion but there seems to be a lot of talk at the moment and a lot of pieces that need to be put together."
The US embassy in Baghdad confirmed that Jolie had lunch with US troops serving in Iraq and had held a meeting with their top commander General David Petraeus, senior diplomats and Iraq's minister for displaced people.
A US embassy official told AFP: "She is here in her official capacity as a UN goodwill ambassador to meet with US, Iraqi and NGO officials to discuss internally displaced persons."
She also held talks in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone with the UN head of mission Staffan di Mistura and there were also plans for her to meet Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, a US official said.
Jolie told CNN: "Of the two million internally displaced, it's estimated 58% are under 12-years-old. It's a very high number of people in a very, very vulnerable situation and a lot of young kids".
"So far, the different US officials I met with and different local people I've met with all have shared concerns, very, very strongly. They have spoken out about the humanitarian crisis, but there seems to be a block in," said the star.
Jolie continued: "What happens in Iraq and how Iraq settles in the years to come is going to affect the entire Middle East. And a big part of what it's going to affect, how it settles, is how these people are returned and settled into their homes and their community and brought back together and whether they can live together and what their communities look like."
She added: "It's in our best interest to address a humanitarian crisis on this scale because displacement can lead to a lot of instability and aggression."
Jolie is no stranger to the country. In August 2007, she met some of the 1,200 Iraqis stranded on the border between Iraq and Syria and appealed for more international support for those affected by the Iraq conflict.
During that tour, Jolie left UNHCR officials to visit privately with US and other multinational forces based in the area.
The following month, she launched a $150m appeal by UNICEF, the UN's fund for children, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to help educate 1m children affected by the war.

Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync creator jailed for 25 years

ORLANDO, Florida - Boy band mogul Lou Pearlman, who launched Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for swindling investors and major US banks out of more than $300 million. But US District Judge G. Kendall Sharp gave Pearlman the chance to cut his prison time by offering a one-month reprieve for every $1 million in cash he helps a bankruptcy trustee recover for his victims.Theoretically, Pearlman could cancel his entire 300-month sentence by repaying the $300 million debt. His lawyer, Fletcher Peacock, said in a written plea that 25 years amounted to a "sentence to death in prison" for the 53-year-old impresario who lived a jet-set life of mansions and luxury cars before the fraud scheme collapsed. In an audacious two-decade scam, Pearlman admitted in his plea agreement to enticing individuals and banks to invest millions of dollars in two companies which existed only on paper - Transcontinental Airlines Travel Services Inc and Transcontinental Airlines Inc.

He won investors' confidence with fake financial statements created by a fictitious accounting firm.During sentencing, Sharp held up a book with letters from Pearlman's victims, saying they included "his family, his close friends and people in their 70s and 80s who have lost their life savings.""So the sympathy factor doesn't run high with the court," the judge said.Pearlman pleaded guilty in March to four counts: two of conspiracy involving bank and investor fraud, one of money laundering and one of making false claims in a bankruptcy.Sharp noted Pearlman's cooperation with the trustee to date had resulted only in the seizure of his mansion, cars including a Rolls Royce and other assets. Those recovered assets will not count toward the incentive plan to cut his sentence.'Negligent' banksSharp scheduled a hearing for the third week in July to determine the exact amount of restitution owed to victims, which is still being calculated. He called the banks "negligent" for lending millions of dollars to fake companies without asking the obvious question: "Why there weren't any Transcontinental planes flying around?"The judge said he was concerned about small investors like Juanita Reynolds of St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, who cried while telling of her nearly 90-year-old husband's reaction to the swindle."Tears ran down his face and he said he'd lost all his self-confidence and he died seven months later," she said.Other victims expressed anger at state regulators who ignored red flags about the scheme and at their need to work through what was supposed to be their retirement years. When Pearlman comes out of prison, "he should be turned over to us," said investor James Taylor.Pearlman unsuccessfully sought a delay in his sentencing to allow time to launch his latest creation, European pop band US 5, in the United States and Asia.In court documents, he argued he was developing US 5 at the time of his arrest and said the bankruptcy trustee for his companies agreed he had potential to earn "significant profits" on the band that could be used to pay restitution.Outside the court, trustee Soneet Kapila said he had hired a music business consultant to help him evaluate the US 5 prospects and that he would be meeting with Pearlman to hear "whatever ideas he may have to utilize.""I think the only fair thing to say is we need to explore that potential," Kapila said.- REUTERS
